The Excitement of the Zoo!

Well, we finally got ourselves to the Pittsburgh Zoo yesterday! It was FABULOUS! The animals were mostly out and alert. Sarah took tons of pictures and video with her new camera. It's rather nice to have someone else be the photographer!

The most amazing and scary thing happened to Matt (see picture). He was dressed all in camo (it's his style choice this year) and this huge TIGER thought he looked DELICIOUS. The tiger could not take his eyes off of Matt and as you can see from the pic, all that separated them was a wall of glass. Anyway, before I knew it, that Tiger ATTACKED the glass! I heard THUMP THUMP as his paws hit the glass. OH! Matt was completely freaked out but kind of intrigued all the same. He is all excited to tell his Kindergarten class about it. That tiger didn't take his eyes off of Matt until we left his line of vision. I think Matt was definitely his menu item of choice!

So, that was our excitement for the week. :)

Matt's Trip to See the Dinosaurs

On Saturday we went to go see the Carnegie Museum of Natural History in Pittsburgh for the first time. They just finished a complete rearticulation of the dinosaur display and it is amazing!

We were chatting about the trip today and Matt made the cutest comment. It is so funny how a 6-year-old sees the world!

He said, "It was so weird how the dinosaurs all died standing up!"

How cute is that? :) I hope it makes you smile too. They did have almost all of the dinosaur fossils standing up in their "natural" habitats.

Maybe it is a good thing that we ran out of time this trip to go see the mummy!

It's a Camo World

Matt has been practicing being invisible. Well, camouflaged to be more accurate. He loves camo stuff. My dad says he's our little Green Beret. Anyway, he got a new camo coat for his birthday plus matching gloves and a hat. So, OF COURSE, he had to have his camo pants to wear with it AND he passed up hot dogs for the school lunch just so he could carry his camo lunch box. He is so funny!

Once he got to school, he realized that his good friend Lee has the SAME coat! Now I don't think he will EVER take it off! He's also counting the days until I let him wear his one pair of camo pants again. I think he wants me to wash them daily! He is just so much fun. Mind you, I am not a huge fan of camo stuff, but Matt decided back in July that he loves it. He equates it with being able to save people and with being a "good guy." So, that's a good thing, at least.

Matt's Smile

Want to hear what Matt's teacher said about him on his Kindergarten report card? Well, you have no choice as there is no stopping my typing! :) I thought this was charming.

"Matt's smile is contagious. He helps to make our room a happy place. He does his best and it shows in his work."

Matt is a terrific boy and I am always so pleased when someone else sees that. He has a very mischievious look and sometimes people think he must be a difficult child, but I've always considered him a very special blessing and he proves it every day with how easy and fun he is to have around. It was a miracle Matt and I survived an out of control car before he was born, so I often think God has something wonderful in store for him.

Hey! I Can Cook! :)

Tori (age 6, my neighbor's youngest) loves to bake. Her mom doesn't. So, since I do bake and she has often sampled it, she now thinks I am a great "cooker." I guess if you bake cookies, you are a cooker. How cute is that? The other day she told her mom that I could be a cooker for the White House (which is her own aspiration in life). I'm really not anything above average at all this, but is sure is nice to have someone think you are that great! :)
